District centre gets the green light

THE Planning, Development and Regeneration (PDR) team at GVA Manchester has secured outline planning consent for a new district centre in Hattersley, Greater Manchester on behalf of Peak Valley Housing Association (PVHA).

The proposed development, comprising just above 75,000 sq ft of retail floor space, includes an anchor discount food store and a drive-through restaurant.

The site is predominantly a cleared brownfield site on Stockport Road.

Following planning approval in January the application was referred to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles as a matter of procedure and he has now determined not to “call in” the application.

GVA director Ian Griffiths said: “We have been working with PVHA over 10 years on the wider strategy for the residential-led regeneration of Hattersley.

“The securing of planning permission for the new district centre is a significant step forwards in assisting the progress of the scheme, complementing the on-going regeneration of the estate and raising the profile of the town in Greater Manchester.”

Phil Corris of Peak Valley Housing Association added: “The new district centre will bring welcome investment and value to the community, generating job opportunities and enhancing  retail choice for local residents, all of which will improve the long-term vitality and viability of Hattersley.”
