DPD depot to deliver 250 new jobs
PLANNING consent for a new depot for the express delivery service DPD (UK) in Liverpool – guaranteeing up to 250 permanent construction jobs – has been secured.
Regeneration specialist St Modwen has been given the go ahead following the agreement with Liverpool City Council which will see a new 69,000 sp ft facility on Sugarbrook Drive at Stonebridge Park take shape.
The new facility will bring a total investment of £12m to the region. Work is due to start in March and will be complete by early 2016. DPD will then take a 25-year lease.
The Liverpool facility is one of three new sites that St Modwen is delivering for DPD, with 60,000 sq ft depots currently being developed at Skypark in Exeter and Etruria Valley in Stoke on Trent.
St Modwen will also develop a further four acres of land for additional employment uses at Stonebridge Park.
Regional director of St Mowden Steven Knowles said: “This latest agreement not only brings investment into the region, but also creates significant employment opportunities for the area. Stonebridge Park is a fantastic location for DPD and will be well situated to serve the region.
“Our income-producing properties continue to generate a strong revenue stream for our business in the North, with a rent roll in excess of £9.1 million last year, and this consent will enable us to further strengthen and grow this offer in the region. Alongside our much-needed major regeneration project at Great Homer Street, this latest agreement demonstrates our commitment to the Merseyside area.”
