Cookhouse will have flavour of Big Apple

URBAN Cookhouse is promising to plate up eclectic fusion dishes and serve it range of cocktails when its doors open in central Manchester later this month.

Styled on a New York loft, the restaurant, bar and late-night lounge is located on Princess Street inside of a former shipping warehouse. The business is opening following a six-figure funding deal from NatWest and the bank’s asset finance partner Lombard.

It will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and will create up to 35 new jobs in the city.

The start-up has been created by 27-year-old Tim Coulston, managing director of Violet Hospitalitywho has been working in the food and drink industry since he was 16.

He said: “Manchester has a vibrant restaurant scene but Urban Cookhouse will be the first of its kind in the city. The stylish urban interiors reflect that of a New York loft and create an atmospheric dynamic dining experience alongside our eclectic range of dishes.”

Items on the menu include crispy cod cheeks with Asian slaw, chilli and lime to start, whiskey chicken and treacle cured bacon chop as mains, and a caramel trio of honeycombe, crème brulee and liquid popcorn with a caramel froth. In addition to Urban Cookhouse, Violet Hospitality is looking to develop two more restaurant concepts by 2020.

NatWest relationship manager Gemma Payne sourced funding for the development including a loan for kitchen supplies from Lombard and support from Mentor, the bank’s business consultancy, advice and legal protection partner.

Payne said: “I was delighted to support Violet Hospitality with the opening of Urban Cookhouse. Tim has an exciting vision for the food and drink industry with his new business, and I wish him every success for the future.”
