Deloitte’s healthcare deals top £500m

THE North West healthcare market has seen an exceptional six months, with Deloitte’s transaction services team completing six deals worth in excess of £500m.
From its base in Manchester, the team has advised on a number of high profile transactions covering private hospitals, care homes and medical technology. Notable deals include the £15.3m acquisition of designer-manufacturer First Water by global supplier of bonding materials Scapa Group, as well as LDC’s buyout of leading clinical trials company Synexus, for £83m.
This success follows the appointment of healthcare specialist Paul Maddison as director, who joined the firm last year with over 15 years’ experience from KPMG.
Maddison said: “The North West is home to a number of dynamic and innovative healthcare companies, which has sparked an increase in M&A from UK investors expanding domestically and overseas.
“In the last six months, there has been a significant uptick from US buyers making strategic acquisitions in the UK, with the healthcare sector offering prospects of long-term investment and stable returns.”
Richard Bell, practice senior partner at Deloitte, added: “It has been a fantastic start to Paul’s career kicking off with a number of significant transactions in the healthcare space. He has an excellent track record within his field and we’re extremely pleased with the success both he and the team has had in the last six months.”
