Jam tomorrow for preserves specialist

MANCHESTER-based preserves and peanut butter producers F Duerr & Sons is expanding its premises.

The company has acquired Unit 4 on the Roundthorn Industrial Estate in Wythenshawe.

Secured by commercial agent TFC, the modern 12,500sq ft industrial unit will undergo a complete refurbishment to provide additional production and distribution facilities that will help the business meet growing demand.

Family-owned Duerr’s has been producing jam, marmalade, sweet spreads and condiments in Manchester for more than 134 years.

Originally based in Old Trafford, the company moved to the Wythenshawe based premises in 1996 and expanded further with the development of a purpose built peanut butter production factory on the same estate in 2011.

Managing director Mark Duerr said: “Duerr’s is committed to continued investment in to the business, and the local community.

“The new unit is based directly in the vicinity of our existing facilities, and with the growing demand for distribution, it seemed like a natural acquisition for the business.”

Ben Fallows, director of TFC, said: “We are increasingly being asked by our corporate clients to assist in their expansion plans and we were delighted to support Duerr’s throughout the acquisition process.”

WHR acted for the vendor, London & Scottish.
