Shankly family run the rule over new hotel

RELATIVES of legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly will visit the new £20m hotel that bears his name this week for a preview of its luxury fit-out.

Based on the Victoria Steet, the 83-bedroom hotel is on the site of the former council offices at Millennium House. The project is a joint venture between Liverpool developer Signature Living and the Shankly family.

Some 200 jobs will be created when the new hotel opens in time for the new football season in August.

The 145,000sq ft site will include a museum dedicated to the man himself, which will contain never-before-seen family memorabilia covering his glittering reign at Anfield. A bar and a sports themed restaurant are also planned for the venue.

The building will also be home to Signature Living’s new headquarters and aMillennium House liverpool bill shankly training centre at which the company plans to offer a number of trainee and apprentice positions in hospitality and creative industries.

Christopher Carline, Shankly’s grandson and hotel director, said: “The hotel is coming together so quickly. It  is a really exciting time for me and all of the family.  Seeing the first room in all its glory is a key moment and I am really proud to be involved.”

Lawrence Kenwright, co-founder of Signature Living, added: “We’re really pleased that members of the surviving Shankly family join us as we unveil the first luxury room at the hotel. This is not just a hotel, this development will become an international tourist attraction in its own right.
