Karting company gearing up for Liverpool track

THE UK’s largest go-karting company has applied for planning permission to turn a former storage and distribution centre in Liverpool into its latest racing track.

Go Karting for Fun, which trades at TeamSport, has submitted the application for the 54,433sq ft space at North Harrington Building at Brunwick Business Park, two miles out of the city centre.

The building has been empty since 2007, and hs been continuously marketed by Hitchcock Wright and Partners and up to now there has been limited interest. But if permission is granted it will become the 13th karting tack operated by TeamSport.

The application also includes parking for 61 vehicles.

The design and access statement submitted with the application said TeamSport has successful on-going relationships with its landlords and builds “excellent relationships within the local community”.

“All of employees are recruited from the local area and usually comprise a minimum of six to eight full time employees and around 30 part-time staff.

“Quite often, the part-time staff undertake full time hours. At each venue, TeamSport employs a large number of 16 – 25 years old employees, often unskilled with limited qualifications.

“It runs specific programmes with a national NVQ provider, who comes into each TeamSport track, providing formal, structured learning & development programmes to all TeamSport employees.

“These NVQ’s range from customer service, team leadership and motor mechanics, all the way up to level 4 NVQ’s in management. All employees are encouraged to study an NVQ as part of their personal development with TeamSport.”
