SeaKing swoops on ferry framework deal

BIRKENHEAD-based SeaKing Electrical has been appointed to a prestigious four-year framework agreement for Mersey Ferries.

The maritime firm, which has supported the famous ferry fleet for many years, has been formally accepted onto the marine engineering consultants framework for Mersey Ferries until 2019.

SeaKing Electrical managing director Dave Gillam said the business will be offering a complete maintenance and support package for the entire fleet – including the Snowdrop, which was recently re-painted in the dazzle design of British pop artist Sir Peter Blake.

“We are delighted to secure such a prestigious long-term agreement  with Mersey Ferries,” he said. “We have delivered work for the fleet over the years, however we still had to showcase the diversity of our skills and expertise throughout a highly-competitive tendering process in order to be successfully appointed onto the framework.

“Our USP lies in the high quality, range and flexibility of our service, combined with the knowledge and experience of staff. These key selling points are the bedrock which has enabled us build a multi-million pound international brand with long-term retained clients.

“SeaKing’s investment in apprenticeship schemes further demonstrates our commitment to the region and strengthens our case when tendering for local work. We passionately believe in creating opportunities to upskill the local workforce and promote knowledge transfer.”

Mersey Ferries, which is owned and operated by Merseytravel, takes hundreds of thousands of people out on the Mersey every year, as well as offering longer trips along the Manchester Ship Canal. The four-year deal is further proof that SeaKing remains a leading choice for major domestic contracts despite a continuing surge in demand for its overseas work.
