Interiors firm Black Orchid goes under

AN upmarket furniture business with concessions in House of Fraser department stores in Manchester and London, has collapsed.

Preston-based Black Orchid Interiors, which was founded in 2004 by interior designer Sally Chamley, has appointed south Manchester firm Lucas Johnson to handle the case.

All six members of staff at the Preston HQ have been made redundant, administrator Kevin Lucas said.

Black Orchid, which raised more than £1m from private investors over time, had annual sales of around £600,000, Mr Lucas said.

“The company was spending significant sums on marketing – as a luxury brand it had to be seen in the right places – but sales did not live up to hopes.

“I am not convinced  the business is recoverable, but there could be some value in the brand name.”

Mr Lucas said Miss Chamley’s other business, Black Orchid London, was unaffected by the insolvency of Black Orchid Interiors.
