101 apartments in offing at Islington Wharf

ISIS Water Regeneration has submitted plans for the third phase of the Islington Wharf waterfront residential development in Manchester.

With the first two phases completed in 2008 and 2015 respectively, ISIS – owned by the Canal and River Trust and Muse Developments – has brought forward another scheme for 101 residential units predominently fronting on to the Ashton Canal Basin.

If approved, it will include one 10-storey building, one building part five/part three storeys, and one building three storeys high with associated car parking.

The site is currently a temporary car park and is bounded by Old Mill Street to the north, the Islington Branch Canal to the east, a public footpath running adjacent to the Ashton Canal to the south and 141 to 155 Great Ancoats Street to the west.

The plans have been submitted to Manchester City Council by JM Architects, based in the city.

“The site poses a number of constraints that have had to be carefully considered during the desing process, such as the existing canal network and neighbouring developments,” JM’s design and access statement says.

“We believe the ideas respond to this and will add to the distinctive character of the area and maintain and enhance its reputation as a great place to live.

“By providing a rich mix of house types and arrangement of scales, set around a mew style network of shared streets and spaces, this design will foster a real sense of space and identity whilst respecting the heritage of the area.”
