Redsun acquires former railway station site

REDSUN Developments has acquired a 4-acre site fronting Derby Road (A565) in the heart of the north Liverpool docklands, for an undisclosed sum.
The site is the former Canada Dock Railway Station, which opened in 1870 to serve the Mersey docks during the height of Liverpool’s industrial and maritime boom.
The site last operated as part of the railway in 1982 and has laid vacant and derelict since.
Liverpool-based developer Redsun has secured planning consent to develop a 30,000 sq ft unit on half of the site with construction scheduled to start later this year.
There are no fixed plans for the remainder of the site, which is being marketed as Canada Dock Exchange, although Redsun has instructed Bilfinger GVA and Roy Backhouse & Co. to source potential occupiers.
Nick Wightman of Redsun Developments said: “Canada Dock Exchange will be the first new development on this site in nearly 150 years.
“It’s in a great location and a real part of Liverpool’s industrial history. We relish taking on tricky brownfield sites like this and don’t plan on wasting any time in bringing this development forward.
“There’s very few sites of this prominence in north Liverpool so we expect there to be strong demand from occupiers wanting both A-road visibility and proximity to the Superport.”
Redsun is also on-site with its 75,000 sq ft innovate:speke development at Venture Point Business Park in Liverpool and the 90,000 sq ft Turbine Business Park scheme in Birkenhead.
