Golf resort to ehance health and fitness facilities

PLANNING permission has been granted for the expansion of health and fitness facilities at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Knutsford, Cheshire.

The Cube, designed by Mather & Co. and WhiteBox Architecture, will consist of a 5,650 sq ft facility, featuring two studio spaces to accommodate new equipment, a breakout/café area and changing facilities.

The expansion will see an existing building shell reconfigured into the new fitness studio to complement the spa and health facilities.

The planning application was submitted in January with an estimated completion date of late 2015.

Chris Mather, managing director at Mather & Co, said: “Designing a fitness studio presents a whole host of challenges in terms of customer flow, accessibility and maximizing the space.

“With this new facility we have worked within an existing shell to create, what will appear to users as, a brand new, state of the art, gymnasium. As part of the careful planning process we have worked hard to ensure minimum disruption to guests.”

Co-owner and chief executive of The Mere Mark Boler said: “Mather & Co. and WhiteBox Architecture have helped us realise our vision to develop a facility that blends seamlessly into our existing spa. We are confident that the new studio will be a great asset to our already award winning spa and health facility.”

Phillip Armstrong, owner of WhiteBox Architecture said: “Because Mere is a Grade II listed environment, it is renowned for being a difficult site to obtain planning approvals. We have worked very hard to achieve approval for a strong design that answers and expands on the original brief. We are delighted with the outcome and look forward to working with the resort through to completion.”
