Trojan’s £5.5m deal means 100 jobs

TROJAN Utilities has won a £5.5m contract to deliver Smart metering services to independent gas and energy supplier OVO Energy in a deal which will create up to 100 new jobs.
It is another milestone in the rise of the Bolton-based company, started in 2011 with just one van from a garage run by managing director Gareth Openshaw.
It also has logistics depots in Yorkshire and Scotland, a workforce of 178 and installed its 100,000th Smart meter last year.
This year already Trojan won a multi-million contract to install and maintain dual-fuel domestic Smart meters in Scotland, and moved into spacious new offices in the shadow of the Bolton Wanderers Macron Stadium at Middlebrook.
The new contract with OVO Energy means more than 100 new jobs, including 20 to 30 in Bolton.
Openshaw said: “Smart meters will change the way we live. For the first time, we can see our energy usage and how much it’s costing us in near real time.”
