Public get more time to air views on Congleton Link Road

RESIDENTS are being given a chance to voice their views on the planning application for the proposed Congleton Link Road.

Cheshire East Council has extended the deadline for people to submit comments on the 3.5-mile link road to December 14.

Consultation on the council’s detailed plans for the new road, which would link the A534 Sandbach Road (west of Congleton) with the A536 Macclesfield Road (north of the town), began in March.

A planning application was submitted to the Council in October.

Council chiefs say the road could significantly reduce traffic problems and air pollution by allowing drivers heading round Congleton to avoid the town centre. It could also boost investment and employment in the town and improve the quality of life for local residents.

Councillor David Brown, Cheshire East Council Cabinet member in charge of highways, said: “If it gets planning approval, the Congleton Link Road will be the biggest road improvement project seen in the town for decades.

“This is something which Congleton has talked about for 30 years and we now have a real prospect of it becoming a reality.

“We’re now at the crucial planning stage and people still have time to submit comments. We want to hear your views. So don’t miss out on the chance to comment on this vitally important planning application for Congleton and the wider area – either for or against.”

People can write in to comment, support or object to the proposals and also inspect the plans at the planning section of the Council’s website using the planning reference number 15/4480C.

If the planning application is passed the council hopes to begin building the road in late 2016. It could be open by 2018.
