£6.5m Bolton Central office development breaks ground

CONSTRUCTION is underway on a £6.5m office building adjoining Bolton town centre’s new rail and bus interchange.

Infrastructure group Robertson has started on the 30,000 five-storey property at the junction of Great Moor Street and Newport Street.

The grade A office space is being developed by PSP Bolton which is an  public/private partnership, comprising Bolton Council and Public Sector (PSP).

The office accommodation is the latest development to start work in the town centre, following the £48m transport interchange, the revamp of Newport Street and the ongoing developments at the Market Place.

Adam Cunnington, from PSP, said: “We are delighted to be playing a part in a landmark development for Bolton town centre.

“The £6.5m Bolton Central will deliver high specification, modern building accommodation in a prime location fronting the new Bolton Interchange.

“We will be keeping the public informed of how the project is developing over the coming year.”

Bolton Council leader Cllr Cliff Morris said: “We have been approached by a number of businesses looking for high quality office accommodation in the town centre, but we have had a shortage of suitable buildings to offer them.

“This building will be very attractive to potential occupiers and we hope that it will also be a catalyst for future developments and investment, as well as increasing footfall and spend in the town centre.”

Robertson North West regional managing director Martin Westgate said: “It’s always great to break ground on a project that can have a lasting impact on its surrounding community.

“There is huge potential in Bolton Central, particularly when viewed as part of the entire public realm improvements taking place in the town centre.”

Robertson is one of the UK’s largest privately owned infrastructure firms employing more than 1,700 people.

The Bolton Central development is scheduled to be completed by January 2017.
