Car park at heart of regeneration zone gets the nod
A 1,200 space car park – part of Warrington’s £107m Bridge Street Regeneration Scheme – has been granted planning approval.
The planning application for the new car-park was submitted to Warrington Council towards the end of 2015 and construction is now expected to start this year.
When completed in mid 2017 the new build Warrington Bridge Street Quarter multi-storey car park will provide car parking spaces over eight levels.
The first element of the Bridge Street Regeneration Scheme was started earlier this year by local contractor CPUK with the start on site of the construction of the temporary market building – the retail unit that will temporarily house the market hall.
The market will move into this temporary location in 2017 whilst the new, permanent 31,150 sq ft covered market hall is being constructed.
Warrington Borough Council leader Terry O’Neill said: “The new car-park is an integral and highly important part of the Bridge Street Regeneration Project as it will underpin and support the whole scheme. Its approval is another great move forward for the regeneration of the town centre.”
The Bridge Street Quarter Regeneration Scheme – that has been driven and will be delivered by Warrington & Co. on behalf of Warrington Borough Council with development manager Muse Developments – will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.
David Burkinshaw, development director at Muse Developments, said: “Securing detailed planning for the multi-storey car-park is good news for the scheme and will facilitate the construction of this next phase later in the year.”
