Constructor gets £27m contracts boost

PRESTON-based Eric Wright Construction has kicked 2016 off to a flying start with four new contracts across the north of England totalling £26.9m.
The projects in Lancaster, Leeds, Stockport and Burnley, span the education and commercial sectors and range between 50 and 81 weeks in length.
The contractor, part of the Eric Wright Group, will build the world’s first ultra-low noise science facility at Lancaster University, IsoLab. The £2m scheme comprises three underground laboratory spaces where vibration, noise and electromagnetic disturbance will be drastically reduced to provide an ultra-clean experimental environment.
Additionally, the firm will construct two new free schools – purpose-built facilities for Khalsa Science Academy in Leeds (£4.1m) and a two-form entry high school and sixth form in Burnley, a project of an undisclosed sum commissioned through the Education Funding Authority (EFA) Regional Contractors Framework to accommodate 650 pupils.
The company has also been appointed by Quorum Estates to deliver a £9.6m, 54,500sq ft office building for Stockport Homes. The new four-storey headquarters consolidates the organisation’s existing services into single, energy-efficient premises.
John Wilson, managing director at Eric Wright Construction, said: “Securing four new contracts in quick succession has given us a great boost and shows the breadth of our construction capabilities in different markets.
“It’s given us a strong foundation for the coming year, particularly as we go through an extremely busy tendering period and we look forward to continuing to expanding our geographic reach to other parts of the country where we are less well known.”
