Work to start on 40 new homes in Manchester

WORK is to start on 40 new two and three-bedroom homes in Openshaw after One Manchester confirms MCI Developments as the build contractor.
A total of 10 homes will be built on Lees Street and 24 on Columbine Street, with 24 of these to be made available for market rent and 10 available for shared ownership. A further six properties will be available for purchase through MCI.
Priority for the shared ownership homes will be given to people who currently live or work locally or have family connections to the Manchester area, as well as people currently living in social housing or on the housing register.
This is the first time place-making organisation One Manchester, which owns and manages more than 12,500 properties across south and east Manchester, has offered properties for shared ownership, which it hopes will be a welcome addition.
Dave Williams, group director of assets and growth at One Manchester said: “We are about providing quality homes that meet the needs of local people who are in different circumstances and stages of life. That is why we are offering a range of tenure options.
“There is high demand for well-managed rental properties as well as affordable routes into home ownership in the city.
“These properties will not only help meet that demand but will also help generate income which can be reinvested into our existing homes and the wide range of services we offer to help improve our communities.”
Andrew Garnett, land director at MCI Developments said: “We are delighted to start works on this mixed tenure scheme with One Manchester. It will regenerate two stalled development sites within Openshaw and will be a great addition to the housing stock of East Manchester.”
