5 things to do in the North West this weekend

Be My Baby
Starring Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent and Hi De Hi’s Ruth Madoc, Be My Baby follows the story of 19-year-old Mary Adams in 1964 who is sent away to a mother and baby convent to give birth to her child shame free. Alongside her fellow residents, they must come to terms with their lives and the prospect of never seeing their children again. The play, which is on at The Lowry in Salford, will include 60s classics from iconic girl groups including The Ronettes and Dusty Springfield. Find out more here.

 

 

 

 

QueenA Kind of Magic
The music of Queen will wow the audience this Saturday night at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with the help of the incredible Philharmonic Orchestra and singers from West End International. This is your opportunity to hear Queen songs like you never have before, with all the fun, soul and glam rock you could wish for. This year would have been Freddie Mercury’s 70th birthday and in celebration hits including Radio Ga Ga and Bohemian Rhapsody will be performed. Find out more here.

Spanish Civil War80 Years On
The Spanish Civil War will be remembered at the People’s History Museum in Manchester this weekend. The venue will be hosting a panel of leading experts that will explore and debate the legacy of the conflict and those who fought in it. Speakers will include University of Oxford Professor Tom Buchanan, chair of the International Brigades Memorial Trust Richard Baxell and Professor of Modern European History Mary Vincent. Chester RacecourseTwilight Walk

Grab the gang and head to Chester Racecourse this Sunday evening for a twilight 10k walk where you will be able to watch the sun setting over Chester. The route, that will start from Chester Racecourse, will take you across the Queen’s Park Suspension Bridge and around the city walls. Popular children’s author Michael Rosen’s books will come to life this Saturday and will give your kids the opportunity to take part in a range of activities that will encourage imaginations, creativity and play. They will also discover hidden rooms and brilliant clues that inspired his writing at the event which is being held at Z Arts in Hulme.
