Law firm celebrates 19 promotions

COMMERCIAL law firm Brabners has promoted 19 of its lawyers, with Lee Jefcott (employment), Simon Lewis (corporate), Louise Scholes (private client) and Phil Steele (commercial litigation) all joining the partnership.

Employment lawyer Jefcott joined the firm in 2013 after qualifying in 1996. He undertakes the full range of employment work, while lecturing for BPP and writing for specialist publications on employment law.

Lewis specialises in corporate acquisitions and disposals, restructures and shareholder matters across a broad range of sectors, including childcare, retail and IT.

Described by Legal 500 as ‘first class’, Scholes advises high-net-worth individuals and trusts. She deals with a broad range of private client work including will drafting, inheritance tax planning, and the administration of estates. administration of estates.

Scholes has expertise in court of protection work and also acts as a professional deputy, attorney and trustee.

Steele has been involved in several high-profile and reported cases. He undertakes commercial litigation work on a national and international basis, with an emphasis on sports and media disputes.

The firm has also promoted eight lawyers to senior associate – Kate Venables, Philip Woolham and Chris Pavlou in the employment department, Andrius Roos and Josephine Morton in the housing and regeneration department, David McGurnaghan in private client and Cathy McFadden and Rebecca Spears in commercial property.

The final seven promotions are to associate – Elspeth Beatty and Emma Clarke in employment, Natalie Hargreaves in family, Hannah Carter, Peter Blakemore and Luke Taylor in the commercial property department, and Rachel James in private client.

The promotions follow a round of appointments which included corporate partner Richard Hepworth, Nicola Lomas, a senior corporate lawyer specialising in the dental sector, and Pamela Wilson, a consultant in the private client department.
