Towering £150m City View scheme gets the green light

PLANS for a massive £150m scheme comprising four towers, a sky garden and gym, have been approved by Salford City Council.

City View development has nodded through the proposal for 488 one to three-bedroom apartments, 37 townhouses, 150 car parking spaces and 200 secure cycle spaces along with a residential lounge, coffee shop and concierge.

The complex, spread across a 597,402sq ft site, is on a corner plot at the junction of Oldfield Road and the A57 Regent Road.

The development has been designed by Manchester-based architect Fletcher-Rae. Its co-founder, Andrew Rae, said the firm has been working on the scheme for about 18 months prior to submitting the application that’s been approved today.

He said: “Ensuring the complex was both viable and thoughtfully integrated into its urban surroundings were big considerations in the ‘planning-application’ stage.

“Our aim is to establish a sustainable community development that responds to the scale of wider developments and city strategies, as well as reintroduces community base back to the north side of Regent Road.

“We made an effort to maximising the front of the building and define the edge of the urban block to exemplify the corner node to the existing Regent Road/Oldfield Road junction.

“We strived to create quality civic spaces around the development with a façade that responds to the landscape and the building’s envelope that been inspired by cornerstones of the community, such as Salford Lads club and exiting terraces in the Salford area.”

Warrington-based developer Vivere Group is behind the City View scheme which is part of the long-term aim to regenerate the area by creating an gateway identity for provides accessibility around the Salford regenerated area, Manchester, and major transport routes.

The build now going forward was recommended by the Salford City Council planners, which conversed extensively with Fetcher Rae, as they compiled the application with assistance from Indigo Planning and Salford Urban Vision.

Fletcher-Rae hope that Vivere Group will press the “green light” to see the project through to competition and it is hoped that technical design will start early 2017.
