All aboard Bolton’s bus bar

SHOPPERS in Bolton are in for a treat this month now the Big Red Bus Bar has driven into town as part of its winter festival programme.

Visitors to Deansgate festive artisan market are being welcomed to the vintage red double decker bus to warm up with hot mulled wine, spiced cider, gin and hot chocolate.

The original 1967 Routemaster – which has been refurbished into a functioning bar – is new to Bolton and will be one of the highlights of the market.

Organised by Bolton Council, the bus bar will be serving festive tipples from 9am – 6pm on weekdays and until 8pm on Thursdays in conjunction with the late night trading.

Leader of Bolton Council Cllr Cliff Morris said: “We have pulled out all the stops to make this a Winter Festival to remember. The Bus Bar is sure to be a highlight but there is plenty on offer.

“There’s not long to wait until the snow slide, ice rink and Santa’s grotto are in town, and it means throughout December and early into the New Year, there will be lots of festive fun for all the family.”

The bus bar will be part of a bustling market, which will boast around 40 stalls offering everything from jewellery and crafts to Belgian waffles and hog roasts.

From December 10 to January 8, the popular artificial snow slide will return to Newport Street and Victoria Square will host the town’s first ever covered ice rink.

From December 10 to 24, a traditional log cabin Santa’s grotto, with a snow roof and a giant glittering, singing symphony tree will also entertain the market’s visitors.
