Hotel in key location set for Spring opening

ACCORHOTELS has announced that the new Mercure St Helens will open to guests in April 2017.

The Mercure St Helens, Chalon Court is in a prime location, with the train station and town centre nearby and bosses say they are aiming to capitalise on its close proximity to Liverpool and Manchester.

The hotel offers 84 rooms and will be run by Balaji Hotels St Helens Ltd under a franchise agreement.

In the UK the Mercure brand can be seen in more than 80 hotels nationwide. The latest addition to the Mercure collection further bolsters AccorHotels network of 732 hotels, with more than 90,000 rooms in 55 countries.

Gaurav Agarwal, owner of Balaji Hotels St Helens Ltd (franchise), said: “We are thrilled to be opening this hotel. We’re looking forward to our new presence in the area, creating jobs and offering guests a fantastic place to stay.”

Thomas Dubaere, managing director of AccorHotels UK & Ireland ,said: “This signing further strengthens our UK presence. Accelerating the franchise growth of the Mercure brand is a key strategic priority for us in 2017 and we remain focused on seeking additional growth opportunities in the UK. This is the kind of opportunity we’re looking to replicate.”

The hotel opened more than 20 years ago as the Chalon Court Hotel, with Living Ventures chief executive Jeremy Roberts as the hotel’s first general manager. It became a Stakis Hotel, then rebranded to a Hilton as part of a takeover, before changing to a Park Inn. Most recently it reverted back to its original name.
