Plans for 16-storey Salford Quays scheme submitted

PLANS have been submitted for a 16-storey scheme including 270 apartments and residents’ gardens on the last remaining undeveloped site overlooking Erie Basin in Salford Quays.

Property company Glenbrook has lodged the application to Salford City Council after acquiring the land from Peel.

The 220,000sq ft building will also incorporate ground floor amenity space and car parking, if approved.

Designed by Sheppard Robson Architects and advised by How Planning, the development marks the fourth build to rent scheme that Glenbrook is delivering in the North West.

In September last year, it completed the first phase of The Keel, a 240 apartment development at Queen’s Dock in Liverpool and is now on site with a 232 apartment scheme in Castlefield in Manchester.

The second phase of the Keel has recently gained consent for a further 257 apartments.

Ian Sherry, director, Glenbrook, said: “This deal further demonstrates our ability to source and deliver exciting projects in the built to rent sector.

“We are one of very few developers in the sector to have delivered private rented schemes from start to finish and should this planning application be successful, we will have achieved consent on more than 1,000 apartments in the past three years.

“We have the same number again in different stages of acquisition and design and continue to look for opportunities across the UK and Ireland.

“This site lends itself well to the rental market, being located immediately adjacent to MediaCityUK and in the heart of Salford Quays which, thanks to the strong strength of occupiers and the cultural, entertainment and leisure offer, has become an internationally recognised destination in its own right. Subject to receipt of planning, we intend to make an immediate start on site for completion in Summer 2019.”

SGi Shepherd Gilmour, the Manchester civil, structural and environmental engineering consultancy, acted for Glenbrook on the production of the planning support reports and produced a tender design to allow it to obtain planning permission.
