Historic hotel on verge of being sold for £10.5m

THE historic Imperial Hotel in Blackpool is about to be sold to a mystery buyer from a guide price of £10.5m.

Property giant Savills had been marketing the Grade II-listed building on its website but has now said “a deal has been agreed with a potential purchaser”. Some 105 staff are employed there.

A spokesperson said the identity of the prospective buyer could not be revealed as negotiations were at a “delecate stage”.

The facility, one of 10 in the portfolio of The Hotel Collection, dates back to the 19th century and has played an important role in the Lancashire seaside town’s history.

It served as a hospital for shell-shocked officers in World War I and as the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in World War II.

Now a four-star hotel, it features 180 bedrooms, plus a restaurant, bar, health club and 14 conference rooms catering for up to 600 delegates.

The Imperial Hotel on the North promenade has hosted numerous famous guests since it opened in the1860s, including Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill, Fred Astaire, The Beatles, Princess Margaret and Princess Anne.
