Booths in South Manchester move

LANCASHIRE supermarket group Booths is to open its first store in Greater Manchester.

The family-owned company has signed up to anchor Citybranch’s controversial development in Hale Barns, near Altrincham.

The scheme, vehemently opposed by local residents due to its size, obtained planning permission on appeal late last year.

Booths has signed up for 15,000sq ft of space. The Hale Barns store will be its 28th shop.

Adam Gross of Citybranch said: “After several months of detailed negotiations, we are very proud that Booths has agreed to be the anchor tenant for this important scheme as it has an excellent reputation for providing exceptionally high quality goods in attractive stores, which will appeal to the local community.

“Despite the current economic climate, Hale Barns differs from many other parts of the country as there is still a strong demand from retailers for the area and by having a high profile anchor tenant such as Booths, we are confident that we will attract other retailers of a similar calibre.”

Graham Booth, property director at Booths adds: “Since we opened in Knutsford in 1990, we have enjoyed a great deal of success in the South Manchester area and attracted a lot of loyal customers.  We are looking forward to bringing a unique offering and a fresh approach to retailing, whilst also being competitive on price.”
