RSA buys Howard Basford bodyshop

WIRRAL bodyshop group Howard Basford has sold its Stockport garage to the insurance giant  RSA.

The business, which now has nine sites around the North West, said it will consolidate its operations in the Manchester area at its 30,000 sq ft garage in Trafford Park.

RSA said the site in Bredbury near Stockport would give it a dedicated repair service in Manchester. It already has similar facilities in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Luton and Bristol.

The 20,000 sq ft garage employs 30 staff who will transfer to RSA. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Howard Basford was established in 1983 by current chairman Tracy Howard. It provides a full accident repair service for major insurance companies, fleet managers, accident management companies and private motorists.

Law firm DWF advised Howard Basford on the sale. The team was led by Katharine Mellor, corporate partner in Manchester.

She said: “The company will continue to support over 30,000 claims per year and in the long-term is committed to building its capacity and seeking further opportunities for expansion.”
