Data centre on course to quadruple turnover

SERVER hosting provider Melbourne plans to quadruple its turnover in the next three years after dramatically expanding its server space.

The Manchester Technopark-based company is adding capacity for up to 3,000 servers, more than doubling current numbers.

It expects to  reap the rewards of its  multi-million pound investment in a short space of time – increasing turnover from a predicted £2m in 2009, to £10m in the next three years.

The company’s existing 2,000 server data centre is now at full  capacity, making it essential that the business expands and Melbourne’s new data centre, to open in May, will support another 1,000  clients.

Daniel Foster, 27, set-up Melbourne as a sole trader in 2001 while still a first year university student.  The company now employs 10 staff.

Mr Foster said: “The expansion is a real sign of our intent to become a major player in the server hosting sector.  We have been generating considerable interest and a waiting list in anticipation of the servers coming online.

“January and February were our best months to date.  With space running out at our current facilities it was essential to add capacity substantially to allow current clients to continue expanding with us as well as meet demand from new customers.”
