An additional £2.3m allocated to new adult care facility in Plymouth

An additional £2.3m has been allocated to the construction of a new adult care facility in Plymouth.

The city council had initially allocated £10.5m for the center on the outskirts of Central Park, catering to adults with learning disabilities and intended to replace The Vine in Whitleigh and Colwill Lodge in Estover.

The extra funding is intended to address rising material costs and enhance the facility’s environmental sustainability.

The facility will consist of seven en-suite bedrooms and seven self-contained flats. Additionally, there will be various dedicated spaces for activities, such as sensory rooms, art rooms, gardens, and a kitchen.

Mary Aspinall, council cabinet member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “It will provide a vitally important service to some of our most vulnerable residents and their families. The facility has been designed in consultation with users to ensure that it meets their needs and will help to maximise independence and education, while also providing space for relaxation and entertainment.”
