Iconic Cornish hotel hits the market

One of Cornwall’s most iconic hotels has been put up for sale.

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co is handling the sale of Driftwood Hotel.

Perched along the South West Coastal Path and boasting sweeping sea views over the turquoise waters of Gerrans Bay and the hotel’s own private beach, this highly regarded boutique hotel is a coastal retreat.

Driftwood enjoys all of the benefits of a secluded yet easily accessible location, with the desirable villages of St Mawes and Portscatho close by.

The hotel is an excellent base for guests looking to explore the surrounding Roseland Peninsula, an unspoilt Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers an abundance of stunning scenery and activities including water sports, hiking, dining, culture and entertainment.

The New England inspired hotel features 14 rooms, a highly regarded restaurant and a three-bedroom owner’s house, along with stunning landscaped gardens and ground of  five acres that lead down to the private beach.

The current owners, Paul and Fiona Robinson have decided to list the hotel to seek retirement.

Paul said: “It has been a tremendous experience to own and manage the Driftwood. We have met some wonderful and fascinating guests and worked with some fantastic staff and suppliers. However, after 22 years, Fiona and I feel it is time to let someone else take the hotel with its amazing location to the next level.”

Stephen Champion, director of hotels south at Christie & Co is managing the sales process.

He said: “Driftwood’s fantastic reputation and stunning location precedes it, offering a new owner the chance to purchase one of the best boutique hotels in Cornwall. The property offers a new owner a significant upside opportunity to develop and create a new luxury coastal hotel in one of the most stunning parts of Cornwall.

“Although the existing business is successful in its own right, the owners have devised two exciting development schemes to enhance the property with additional bedrooms and an enlarged restaurant plus spa facilities, subject to the necessary planning permissions. A detailed confidential pre-application has already been submitted and a supportive response has been received from the Planning Officer Equally, the hotel will appeal to buyers looking to continue trading the hotel in its current format. We anticipate significant interest in this truly unique opportunity.”
