Developer appoints managing director for key region

Dorset developer McCarthy Stone has appointed a new managing director for its South East business.

The Bournemouth based developer and manager of retirement communities has appointed Alex Stark to head up its London and South East division.

Alex joins McCarthy Stone with considerable senior-level experience in the housebuilding sector.

He spent the previous four years at Crest Nicholson, where he was managing director for the Eastern division and an executive board member.

Alex has also held positions at Redrow Homes, where he was managing director for its eastern division, and at Barratt Homes London, where he was sales director.

Alex joined McCarthy Stone before Christmas and is responsible for the London and the South East team and its activities, which is currently selling across 35 developments.

The division’s land team is also looking to buy at least 12 new sites per year. He will manage the division’s land and construction budget, with a total of around £300m over the next three years. He will also join McCarthy Stone’s executive team.

John Tonkiss, chief executive of McCarthy Stone, said: “Alex has significant experience of the housebuilding sector and I’m delighted to welcome him to the business. His knowledge will be integral to helping us open new high-quality and affordable retirement communities across London and the South East.”

Alex added: “I’m delighted to be joining the UK’s leading developer and operator of retirement communities. I’m looking forward to helping meet the housing and support needs of the ageing population and progressing McCarthy Stone’s strategy to provide more affordable retirement housing options for those in later life.”

McCarthy Stone is currently selling across 100 developments in England and Wales.
