Eight Body Shop stores in South West to close with the loss of dozens of jobs

The Body Shop store in Nuneaton will close

The Body Shop is to shut more than 80 stores and axe almost 500 jobs after the business collapsed into administration.

FRP, which is handling The Body Shop’s administration, said they would close  the stores over the next four to six weeks, having already close seven sites last month including one in Bristol.

FRP said a total of 82 shops will be closed, meaning 489 workers will be made redundant in the coming weeks.

Tony Wright, one of the administrators at FRP, said: “In taking swift action to right-size The Body Shop UK store portfolio, we have stabilised the business and are providing the best opportunity for this iconic brand to have a long-term, sustainable future.”

FRP said it was “fully focused on exploring all options to take the business forward”.

The Body Shop was founded in Brighton in 1976 by the late Dame Anita Roddick.

Since its launch the company has changed hands twice most recently to private equity firm Aurelius in late 2023.

Within weeks of the deal Aurelius decided to place the UK arm in administration following poor sales over Christmas and January.

Shops closing in the South West include:

  • Barnstaple
  • Bournemouth Commercial Rd
  • Chippenham
  • Cirencester

  • Trowbridge
