Hamper company joins forces with Age Concern

Cornish-based Letter Box Hamper has teamed up with Age UK to help combat loneliness and social isolation.

The company are donating British food hampers to the charity monthly, to help make a difference to some of those who need it most.

The charity works closely to support isolated and lonely individuals within Cornwall, not just the elderly, as many might believe.

As a business born out of a desire to revamp the hamper industry, supporting the wider community is integral to Letter Box Hamper.

Founder Jonathan Winfield said: “I set up Letter Box Hamper to change the way we gift food and drink, my thoughtful, personalised, small hampers are always beautifully hand-wrapped and postable, to arrive as a surprise directly through letter boxes. Reaching out to Age UK Cornwall was a natural decision, helping to spread some warmth and joy, even in the most challenging  of time. I am quite excited about this partnership!”.

The first delivery of hampers was made last month to the ‘Step into Wellness’ programme, which is facilitated by Age UK Cornwall. Designed to assist those on a journey to better their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, this free initiative combines conversation-based sessions with activities, each exploring with the individuals ‘what matters to them’. Alongside this, the programme widens connections as well as friendships, improving health and self-confidence.

The initial hamper drop at their Liskeard based group was greatly received with one recipient overjoyed at the surprise treat which she said “have really made my day.” It is precisely this sentiment that Letter Box Hamper has placed at the heart of the company, unexpectedly brightening someone’s day and showing them that they truly matter.

As Tracey Roose, Chief Executive of Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly explains “”We are extremely proud to work with organisations that share our core values, and this ongoing partnership with The Letterbox Hamper Company will support our mission to improve health and wellbeing throughout Cornwall. These gorgeous hampers will be delivered, by our wellbeing teams, to local community groups and individuals who are socially isolated. These wonderful ‘gifts of kindness’ are very impactful and show people that they are not alone, they are valued, and that they matter.”

With the next deliveries due to the Age UK Cornwall Newquay and East Cornwall groups, along with a shared presence at next month’s Royal Cornwall Show, this is set to be a long-lasting, deeply impactful relationship.
