Fertility centre acquired by PE-backed European firm
Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM) has been sold to one of Europe’s leading providers in reproductive medicine and genetics.
FutureLife Group (FL), which has more than 40 clinics across eight countries, has acquired Fertility Bristol Limited, trading as BCRM, in a move to expand its UK presence.
BCRM is an independent fertility clinic, operating from a state-of-the-art facility in Bristol’s Aztec West, offering IVF, ICSI, IUI, egg freezing, donor sperm and other treatments.
The centre has been a cornerstone of fertility services in the Bristol region for more than 40 years. Originally established as a joint research project between the University of Bristol and Southmead Hospital, BCRM transitioned to an independent clinic in 2018. BCRM also has satellite clinics (both wholly owned and as strategic partners) in Bristol Spire, Bath, Cardiff, Swindon and Jersey.
FL, a leading European provider of IVF, fertility treatments, and associated genetic services, is backed by CVC Capital Partners and Hartenberg Holding.
FL is headed by chief executive Francisco Lobbosco. The UK is a key market for FL and BCRM’s addition perfectly complements its presence across two CRGH clinics in central London, extending FL’s reach into the West Country.
Dr Valentine Akande, medical director and lead clinician at BCRM said: “Joining FL is a milestone for BCRM, giving us access to strategic resources and expertise within a leading international network. This partnership will help us expand our services and continue delivering the high-quality, patient-centred care that has been our foundation for over 40 years.
“We’re incredibly thankful to the entire Grant Thornton team for their invaluable partnership throughout this transaction. Their persistence and dedication were key to completing the deal within a challenging timeline and securing an outstanding outcome for our business.”
BCRM was advised by Grant Thornton’s South West corporate finance team led by director Nick Jones.
Jones said: “The BCRM brand reputation is an extremely strong one, with an unwavering commitment to medical excellence, innovation and its compassionate approach. This transaction in the fertility space represents an exceptional outcome for all parties and a high-quality addition to the FL brand.”
The Grant Thornton corporate finance team included Peter Jennings, Nick Jones, Anna Davies and Georgina Smith. John Panteli, James Pitts, Robert Spooner, Ellie Nicholls (Grant Thornton) provided vendor financial diligence. Martin Verrall, Richard Whitecross and Mia Fogerty (Grant Thornton) provided tax advice to the vendors.
Law firm Gardner Leader (led by corporate partner James Thorpe, supported by Gail Vallis) advised BCRM’s shareholders.
