Housebuilder snaps up trio of development sites

Wain Homes has completed the purchase of three development sites in Cornwall and Devon that will allow the construction of 574 homes.

Work will start later this month on the first of 274 new homes at Dudman Farm on the outskirts of Truro city centre. The development borders open countryside and will offer a range of one to four-bedroom homes set in two distinct east and west areas divided by a picturesque valley.

More than one third (90 homes) of the development is designated as affordable.

At Liskeard, 202 new homes will be built on a large site at Tencreek Farm and will include one and two-bedroom apartments as well as two, three and four-bedroom homes. The development, called Lark View, will again provide significant level of ‘affordable’ housing.

In north Devon at Yelland the first homes are scheduled to be complete by spring next year.

The development, named Otter’s Reach to recognise the presence of otters in the nearby River Torridge, will offer 80, one, two, three and four bedroom homes.

As part of development agreements on all three sites the company will contribute a total of almost £3m towards to the local community through education, health and transport provisions.

Mark Harding, land and planning director for Wain Homes, said: “All three sites fit our criteria to build homes in accessible and beautiful locations close to established communities and we continue to look for more opportunities to provide the spacious, energy efficient homes people enjoy.

“Dudman Farm will be Wain Homes’ first development in Truro since 2013 and is an incredibly important land acquisition for the company. It will give us a very strong foothold in a prime market in Truro and demonstrates our commitment to significantly increasing the number of homes we will be providing in the South West over the coming years.

“We have been working closely with our consultant team on Dudman Farm and I am appreciative of everyone’s dedication and hard work. Due to its topography, the development has been a complicated project and I am pleased the social and economic benefits of the scheme have been realised, enabling us to make a significant contribution to desired housing supply.

“Tencreek Farm forms part of the urban extension to Liskeard and our scheme has been designed to provide continuity and allow connectivity to the adjoining potential development areas which form the wider Tencreek Farm masterplan, aimed at creating a sustainable and healthy neighbourhood to the south-east of Liskeard.

“This is a strategic land acquisition, working with West Country Land and the land owner which will roll on from the success of our Charter Walk development in the town, demonstrating our commitment to Liskeard and the wider county of Cornwall.”

In north Devon at Yelland the first homes are scheduled to be complete by spring next year and Steve Goldsworthy, managing director of Wain Homes South West, said: “Wain Homes has an excellent reputation for building high quality new family homes in this part of Devon, having recently completed a successful development in Barnstaple and currently building popular new homes in South Molton, Lifton and Westward Ho!

“Yelland perfectly fits our criteria for a sustainable development of family homes being close to all the amenities of a larger town, such as Barnstaple, but with equally easy access to the countryside and beaches of the North Devon coastline and North Devon Natural Landscape.
“This location, along with the quality of construction you would expect from a Five-Star accredited housebuilder, will make Otter’s Reach a popular development for local families wanting put down roots in this region and we would advise people to register their interest to be among the first people to hear about the first releases in Spring next year.”
