Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) and Redcliffe & Temple BID have renewed their three-year contract with resource management company Veolia.

The collaboration, originally launched in 2018, has made significant strides in enhancing sustainability across Bristol, doubling recycling rates from 34% in 2019 to 64% in 2024.

More than 300 BID members have benefited from the programme’s eco-friendly waste management services, including general waste, dry mixed recycling and growing waste streams like coffee cups and disposable vapes.

In 2023 alone, Veolia collected and recycled over 174 tonnes of materials, playing a key role in Bristol’s transition to a greener future.

Consultations on the creation of a new Bristol BID, to unite the existing districts and expand the area, will widen the benefits of the Veolia partnership to more businesses in 2025, pending the vote due next June.

“Continuing our work with Veolia is integral to Bristol’s sustainability goals,” said Tom Swithinbank, senior project manager at Bristol City Centre BID and Redcliffe & Temple BID. “By collaborating with a partner that shares our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment, we’re ensuring that businesses across the city are contributing to a better, greener Bristol.”

Veolia’s managing director – commercial, Adam Wylie, added: “We are proud to support Bristol’s thriving business community in its efforts to reduce environmental impacts. This partnership not only helps businesses achieve their sustainability goals but also aligns with Veolia’s mission to promote ecological transformation across the UK.”
