Broadband company announces job cuts

Cornish internet provider Wildanet has announced it will be cutting jobs as part of a restructuring process.
The Liskeard-based company, which was founded in 2017, said 35 jobs could be affected – about 18% of the current workforce.
Last July, Wildanet received a £35m investment from the UK Infrastructure Bank to help accelerate broadband rollout across Cornwall.
Later that month it announced a ground-breaking new partnership agreement with global telecoms giant Nokia to accelerate the roll-out of its new gigabit-enabled full fibre network for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
But despite a healthy project pipeline, Wildanet said it has been hit like many companies by rising costs.
A spokesperson for Wildanet said there has also been a shift in skill sets required, prompting it to “continue to evolve while adapting to external forces affecting our business”.
“We are reviewing our resource requirements to align our business with the future full fibre roll-out strategy in the South West. This is in response to increased costs and the need to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace as well as addressing the changing skills that our business requires as we move forward with our business plan,” the company added.
