Pub company promises Coronation cheer

The Duchess of Cornwall Inn in Poundbury

To celebrate the King’s coronation weekend, brewery and pub company Hall & Woodhouse is introducing a round of royal specials and activities at its managed pubs in Dorset.

Themed seasonal menu items and drink will be on offer across Hall & Woodhouse’s pubs.

A limited-edition beer, ‘Ale to the King’ will be launched by Hall & Woodhouse owned Dorset Badger Beer for guests to try during the festivities.

The ale will be available alongside special menu items to commemorate British culture and cuisine, including a coronation chicken salad, cherry Eton mess, and Hall & Woodhouse’s staple menu items like classic house lager battered fish & chips.

Each of Hall & Woodhouse’s managed pubs in Dorset such as The Duchess of Cornwall Inn in Poundbury, The Olive Branch in Wimborne, and The Smuggler’s Inn in Osmington, will be holding a ‘compuptition’ to crown the King and Queen of Pub Dogs.

Owners can nominate their dogs by posting an image of them on Instagram at their local Hall & Woodhouse pub and tagging the relevant pub’s page and #HWPubDogs.

Entries will remain open until 9am Wednesday, May 10 2023 and winners will receive a two night dog friendly stay at Hall & Woodhouse’s Lulworth Cove Inn on the Dorset coast.

Rosie Akenhead, head of digital and marketing communication from Hall & Woodhouse, said: “The King’s coronation is a rare opportunity to feel like a part of history. We’re excited to welcome guests into our pubs and commemorate the occasion together as a community, with plenty of ways to celebrate and get involved, from culinary experiences to canine compuptitions, if you’ll excuse the pun.

“Alongside our search to find the most monarchical mutt, guests are welcome to bring their beloved dogs to their local Hall & Woodhouse Managed Pub – which of course are all dog-friendly – and make the most of our dedicated doggy ‘beer’ barrels of water and complimentary dog treats at the bar. Many of our pubs also serve dog-friendly ice cream so our four-legged friends don’t miss out on dessert.”

Child-friendly craft activities will also be available in pubs.
