New owner take overs at West Country football club

Gloucester City

A millionaire businessman has become the new owner of a South West football club.

Patrick Chambers,  who founded Coldseal Windows, has taken over at Gloucester City. He has become the new owner of the National North League Team.

He has taken over from Eamonn McGurk who announced at the start of the year that the club was up for sale.

Chambers is currently the chairman at Hungerford Town while his wife is the commercial manager.

Chambers addressed the fans through a statement on the clubs website.

He said: “I can’t tell you all just how excited we are to take the reigns at this wonderful football club from the 2023/24 season.

“We have visited you on several occasions and the opportunity to grow the club, both on and off the pitch was just too tempting to turn down.

“The facilities are second to none and with some hard work and sound strategic decisions we can make this club huge together and fan engagement is a big priority for myself as Chairman.

“You will see myself and Nicky very hands on come matchday to deliver the best family fan experience possible.”

Plans are being put in place for the new owners to meet the fans to talk to them about their vision for the future.

A statement from the club read: “We’re delighted to announce that Patrick Chambers is set to take over as the Gloucester City AFC chairman.

“Patrick has been a friend of the club in recent years, and we’re delighted to have come to an agreement with him and of course his wife Nicky, who will join him at the Tiger Turf stadium.

“The final details of the takeover will be signed over the next 3 months, with Patrick formally taking charge at the end of the 2022/23 season.

“They’ll bring the fans, the city, and the community together in a way that will no doubt give the football club the springboard it needs for success.”

With 23 years remaining on the current leasehold agreement and Eamonn McGurk and his business partner Alex Petheram remain in talks over the potential sale of the freehold.
