Bristol firm helps to train next generation of health carers

Students on midwifery, physician associate, and nursing courses at UWE are learning key medical procedures by practicing on lifelike human task trainers designed to look and feel as close to a real patient as possible, created by Bristol manufacturer Limbs & Things.

This month, a group of the university’s first year nursing students came together at UWE’s Glenside campus with staff from Limbs & Things to demonstrate how the products are used in a classroom setting.

The products used by the students include the innovative and global market leading PROMPT Flex simulated birthing range, an anatomically correct and interactive model of a mother’s pelvis and baby. They also got to demonstrate on a range of other products used for training on lumbar punctures, urinary catheterization, cannulation, and abdominal examinations.

Dr Adele Drew-Hill, dean and head of UWE Bristol’s School of Health and Social Wellbeing, said: “Limbs & Things products are a crucial part of our curriculum, and they are critical in teaching our students how to perform key medical procedures accurately and confidently. We’re so glad to have such a fantastic local company on our doorstep and it was lovely for our students to meet some of the team and show off their newly learned skills.”

Anne Allin, commercial director at Limbs & Things, said: “We love working with local partners and it was great to meet some of our future nurses at UWE Bristol and see the amazing simulation suites on campus. This is exactly why we created our products in the first place – to train up each generation of healthcare professionals with medical simulators that truly look and feel like the real thing.”
