Research company moves into purpose built laboratories
A developer of rapid tests for pathogen and water contamination detection has moved into a new purpose-built laboratory premises.
The laboratory at the Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre (HWIC) in Truro is part of a growth plan for Molendotech.
Within the new space the University of Plymouth spinout company, can expand its testing amenities, and assist on pre-clinical and clinical trials.
Professor Simon Jackson, founder and chief scientific officer at Molendotech, said: ”We are delighted to expand our business into Cornwall, and with our new facilities, it will allow us to develop our exciting healthcare applications. We have already employed local staff at our new HWIC laboratory and plan to increase staff numbers there, as the business develops in line with our strategic growth plans.”
The new laboratory has allowed the company to set ambitious plans for growth, including increasing the capacity for water testing internationally following the success of the rapid water testing kit, Bacterisk+, and expanding research development to assist with the bacteria detection in food, specifically shellfish. Molendotech also plan to develop a rapid point-of-care device for wound diagnostics for the healthcare industry.

The Cornwall Innovation Centres comprise of three Centres across Cornwall, aimed at inspiring dynamic people to grow and build innovative enterprises leading to business success.
Over 150 businesses are run from the three locations: Truro (Health & Wellbeing Innovation Centre, Treliske), Pool (Pool Innovation Centre) and Penryn (Tremough Innovation Centre).
