McLaughlin & Harvey secure new city centre office

The family-ran 170-year-old business McLaughlin & Harvey is set to expand into a new Birmingham city centre office.

Northspring | Temple Street will house the building and civil engineering company, which plans to bolster its Birmingham team to 30 employees during the first half of next year.

McLaughlin & Harvey recently secured the main contract for Wolverhampton Council’s £61m City Learning Quarter city centre site, to ensure the scheme is complete for the start of the 2025/26 academic year.

It will create facilities for the City of Wolverhampton College, Adult Education Wolverhampton and Central Library.

John Carlin, regional director at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: “McLaughlin & Harvey is committed to growing its presence in central England. We already have several projects on the ground for blue-chip clients and a strong pipeline of potential work. Relocating to larger office premises in Birmingham allows us to scale up our team in the region.

“Northspring offer modern and professional office space with the flexibility needed for our future ambitions. Once we’d viewed the facilities and amenities it was a relatively easy decision, especially as we knew that the environment was reflective of our business and would help attract new talent. The gym is already proving very popular with staff and we expect that the cinema room will be used extensively.”

Richard Williams, director at Lambert Smith Hampton said: “It’s great to see such a prestigious business moving into Northspring. Temple Street is becoming a real hub for property and real estate in Birmingham.

“With its state-of-the-art facilities and amenity offering, much of which you simply won’t find in other buildings, it’s a great option for companies with a growth agenda that are looking to attract their staff into the office.”

The building offers amenities such as ‘The Club’ – a business lounge with a 13-seat screening room, podcast studio, meeting rooms and Zoom booth, along with communal workspace for hot-desking and a refreshments bar.

It also includes ‘The Park’ – a fitness suite and contemplation room with shower and changing facilities alongside a cycle storage and repair station and EV charging bays in the basement car park.

On the roof, you’ll find ‘The Deck’, a landscaped open-air terrace, with views of the Birmingham skyline.
