Building firms collpases with loss of 240 jobs

A STAFFORDSHIRE building firm has collapsed with the loss of more than 200 jobs.

The Linford Group, which was based in Lichfield, had been carrying specialist build and construction projects in the region for more than 100 years.

Around 200 of the firm’s employees were based at its head office with a further 40 scattered around various other sites and projects.

Birmingham corporate recovery firm Butcher Woods has been appointed to handle the insolvency and it is in the process of contacting other building firms in the area to try and get Linfords’ ongoing projects completed.

The collapse of the firm has been blamed on the difficult trading environment for construction firms.

The loss of such a high profile business – and a major employer – is a major blow to the Staffordshire town.

The company was founded nearly 140 years ago, and had a long track record in delivering high-quality building and restoration projects.

Although based in Lichfield, the group had offices in the North West, the South West and North Wales.
