Worcestershire engineering firm targets growth for 2012

A MIDLAND engineering firm has seen an investment in new plant result in a growth in turnover.

Redditch-based Machined Component Systems, which is in its 25th year, purchased six new CNC machine tools with the intention of growing the business.

The precision machinist is now planning further expansion during 2012 by looking to manufacture parts other firms cannot produce.

The investment has allowed the company, which employs 34 people at its 25,000ft² facility, to maintain strong sourcing relationships with a host of blue chip manufacturers,

MCS supplies a range of turned/milled/drilled parts and precision-engineered machined components to customers in industry sectors such as automotive, petrochemical, environmental, transport, marine, healthcare and white goods.

Warren Gray, managing director, said: “Our continuous investment in equipment and our people working with a positive ‘can do’ philosophy sets us apart in our ability to work in close collaboration with customers in providing cost-effective, high quality machining solutions.”

The firm’s customer commitment is based on long-term supply agreements which often start with product development and design input, but can also embrace open-book costing.

“The strong driver of continuous improvement in every facet of the business naturally embraced the introduction of one hit machining and the initial machines for such a strategy were introduced during the late 1980s,” added Mr Gray.

“However, it was the introduction of Tornos, Doosan and Miyano machines – from Tornos Technologies, Citizen Machinery UK and Mills Manufacturing that emphasised the benefits in captivating this technology through cost-effective machining times and finished machined quality.”

To support expansion, the company has recently reintroduced an apprenticeship programme.

“We regularly invest in equipment; so investing in the workforce is another measure of our confidence in the future,” said Mr Gray.
