Brum share of broadband pot announced

THE Government has confirmed Birmingham will get £10m to roll out a new ultra-fast broadband network.

In the Budget cities were given a guide to what they would get but now the actual amounts have been confirmed.

However, eyebrows will be raised in Birmingham as much smaller cities have received larger amounts from the pot.

Bristol, for example, will receive £11.3m while Belfast gets £13.7m and Edinburgh £10.7m. The largest slice of the cake goes to London which gets £25m.

Culture Secretary Maria Miller said: “Fast broadband is essential for growth, and is key to the country’s economic future.”
