BABC ties up JLR and United Airlines to support major conference

COMPANIES including Jaguar Land Rover and United Airlines have given their support to a major transatlantic business conference in Birmingham.

The conference, organised by the Midlands chapter of the British American Business Council (BABC), is highlighting how issues such as advanced manufacturing will influence future economic strategies.

Also lending its support is Birmingham Airport, which is keen to enhance its transatlantic connections.

Delegates from the BABC’s 18 chapters in the United States and Canada are expected to participate in the event.

Cassie Muir, the BABC’s executive director said:  “We are delighted to have secured such major sponsor for this important event.  It is fitting that both United and the airport have joined JLR to support us.  JLR is a global brand whose products are valued highly in the US.

“Many of our visitors from the States will be arriving at Birmingham after travelling with United, which provides a daily service between Birmingham and Newark.

“It is also fitting that the business conference should be held in Birmingham,  during Birmingham Chamber of Commerce’s 200th anniversary year.”

The theme of the event will be ‘Strategies for Success in Tomorrow’s Economy – Design, Advanced Manufacturing and Professional Services’.  A number of sector topics will include: ‘the future of transport, what will tomorrow’s economy look like, the future of funding for SMEs, the future of cyber crime fighting and higher/further education focus – preparing graduates’.

The opening session on Wednesday May 15, 2013 will be held at the International Convention Centre and has been organised by the British American Group of Lawyers. It will include three legal seminars and networking.  It will also offer continuing education credits for both UK and US lawyers.

The conference is being supported by a social and cultural programme which will include a welcome reception at the Symphony Hall with a special concert of American music performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

On the evening of May 16, a gala dinner for delegates will take place at the Banqueting Suite at Birmingham Council House.
