Professional qualifications continue to boost income – RICS

RESULTS of a new survey show that members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) receive higher salaries than those without a professional qualification.

The RICS and Macdonald & Company Rewards and Attitudes Survey reveals that nationally whilst non-chartered surveyors achieve an average salary of £40,235, their RICS counterparts receive £49,986 per annum.

The average base salaries of surveyors in the West Midlands rose only marginally from £44,019 to £44,894 this year. Surveying professionals in the region fared better than some but those in Greater London and the South West reported the highest income.

Perhaps unsurprisingly only 18% of the region’s respondents anticipated the economic outlook to positively impact their pay over the course of the year. Meanwhile, job security remains the most important job quality to the region’s surveying employees.

Jennifer Welch, director of RICS North & Midlands, said: “It’s encouraging to see that those who have worked hard to achieve their chartered status, and are committed to adhering to the required professional standards, are being recognised for their additional expertise and knowledge.

“The challenging market place has brought many obstacles for the property sector, so it’s good to see that employers are increasingly recognising the importance of standards in the marketplace and within their own operations, rewarding their workforce accordingly.”
