New retail development set to transform Market Drayton

PLANS have been drawn up for a major commercial development set to transform retail facilities in a Shropshire market town and create hundreds of new jobs.
Manchester-based HOW Planning is building on its portfolio of work in the county by compiling a planning submission for the development in Market Drayton on behalf of property developer Danbank Developments Ltd.
HOW has submitted an outline planning application for a 45,000sq ft supermarket scheme on a site close to the town centre.
The proposed supermarket scheme, which is located on Greenfields Lane, acts as a catalyst for a much larger area which has the potential to provide up to 150 new homes and extensive sporting and recreational facilities; all of which are said to meet identified needs of the area. If approved, the plans will open up this parcel of land and facilitate its future development.
Richard Wilshaw, of HOW Planning, said: “The sale and development of the new supermarket scheme will kick start a much more extensive project, which will bring huge benefits to the town of Market Drayton.
“The plans will transform what is currently an underutilised area of the town and will bring a range of wider improvements for the local community. Most importantly, the development will prevent the need for Market Drayton residents to travel long distance to towns such as Shrewsbury and Telford to undertake their weekly food shop.”
The new development, which will also provide a petrol station and extensive car parking , will create hundreds of new local jobs and provide extensive landscaping and public open space.
