Birmingham property consultancy Cottons expands after new finance package

A BIRMINGHAM property consultancy, keen to take advantage of a pick-up in the housing market, has expanded its operation after securing a new £200,000 finance package.
Cottons Property Consultants, based on Hagley Road, used the new funding to purchase adjacent premises to provide additional space for its Auctions, Lettings and Estate Agency departments. The new premises were officially opened by Edgbaston MP Gisela Stuart.
The move will enable the firm to expand the estate agency side of the business; a move which has already resulted in several new jobs and grown the company’s workforce to more than 30.
Andrew Barden, managing partner at Cottons said: “We are very positive about the current market conditions and the future. We are seeing movement on both the sales and rental side of the business and I personally believe that confidence is returning to the market.
“We saw this as an opportunity to expand the estate agency side of our business which supports our overall strategic goal. In addition we have taken on key staff with expertise in the estates and lettings markets which has allowed us to capitalise on the market.”
Financial support for the business has been provided by Barclays.
Tracy Wassall, Senior Barclays Business Manager said: “Following the buy-out of the business in 2011, Cottons has a clear vision for the future. They are in the fortunate position of being able to offer a ‘one-stop’ proposition to their clients in terms of their knowledge in the property market including advice on Lettings, Sales, Management and Auctions.”
Cottons has recently been appointed as a recommended agent for the Extra Care Hagley Road Village, Edgbaston, a newly-constructed development of 240 retirement apartments.
