Retail: West Bromwich’s New Square set to welcome latest retailer

ALL this week TheBusinessDesk.com will be focusing on stories relating to the retail sector as it approaches the crucial Christmas trading period.

WEST Bromwich’s New Square shopping development is set to welcome receive another leading retailer to its growing roster of businesses.

Sandwich brand Subway is set to open a new outlet at the centre today. The £200,000 investment has helped create 15 full and ten part-time jobs.

The store will be one of the first Subways in the UK to be designed to the chain’s new Metropolitan Décor, which has been devised to enhance the brand to give it a more upmarket feel.

The franchise is being run by West Bromwich entrepreneur Johnny Khag, who lived in Alfred Street, which now forms part of the New Square site.

He first set-up as a Subway franchisee in 2005 and, with the opening at New Square, now runs seven stores (four in Wolverhampton and two in Walsall). After graduating in Business and Finance he previously worked for NEC Group as a Catering Manager in Solihull, and as a General Manager for Welcome Break.

He said: “The arrival of New Square has brought with it a demand for freshly made food, which we hope to fill with Subway’s arrival, as well as creating jobs and income for the local community.”

Steve Burr, centre manager at New Square added: “It’s great to have a home-grown entrepreneur like Johnny joining us at New Square. Subway will be a fantastic addition to our expanding list of shops, cafes and restaurants.”

New Square currently sees an average of 70,000 visitors each week, over 1,350,000 since it opened in July. Schuh and H&M will shortly joining the line-up of New Square stores, with opening dates to be announced shortly.
